I would say it all depends on what is the purpose of your text backlinks?
If you are doing a link exchange then I would say use a separate link page to tie everything together.
If you simply want to transfer some of your high PR rank to your money earning page I would say to put it in the context itself.
If you simply want to put it in the not so obvious location, I will put before your footer.
