It really depends on where you embed your link. 
If you put your anchor at a site where it has no PR, a brand new site for example then even after 6 months nothing will happen. 
If you put you link at some High PR then you can see the result pretty soon. 
One way that most people do in this day is to embed the anchor within social media, the result comes out very fast too, it might show up in few hours.

But no matter what kind of link creation, takes time.
